Doubtful about 10 percent reservation for the economically weak Sharad Pawar

KOLHAPUR: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday raised doubts over the implementation of 10% reservation for the economically weaker sections of society.On the 124th Constitutional Amendment Bill that was passed by both the houses of Parliament and was given assent by President Ram Nath Kovind, he said, “I doubt the future of the bill. The discussion is going on and we will soon come to a conclusion. Legal experts have told me that the government will not be able to prove its stand on the bill in the Supreme Court.”Pawar added, “This reservation is the election ‘jumla’ of the ruling party, considering the coming elections. The alliance partners will be given seats where they have a powerful presence.”On the political developments in Kolhapur he said, “I want Hasan Mushriff to play a major role in state politics.

In this situation, the government is taking decisions to appease the masses.He said, “Parliament has passed the bill but the Supreme Court will not allow the changing of the basic features of the Constitution and guiding principles set by Dr B R Ambedkar.”A notification issued by the ministry of law and justice said on Saturday that the Constitution (103 Amendment) Act, 2019 has received the assent of the President.The Act amends Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution, by adding a clause which allows states to make “special provision for the advancement of any economically weaker sections of citizens”.Speaking on the seat-sharing issue between the NCP and Congress, he said, “We have resolved the issue of all Lok Sabha seats, except eight in Maharashtra . The discussion is going on and we will soon come to a conclusion. The alliance partners will be given seats where they have a powerful presence.”On the political developments in Kolhapur he said, “I want Hasan Mushriff to play a major role in state politics. The Kolhapur and Satara seats belong to the NCP and our candidates are fixed.”However, he did not specifically mention the names of sitting MPs Dhananjay Mahadik and Udayanraje Bhosale as the probable candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections.On the ongoing agitation of farmers for the FRP he said, “I will meet Raju Shetti soon and ask him to explain to us how we can pay a one time FRP in this situation when the millers are unable to pay farmers their dues.”
