30% of granted district funds may go towards drought relief

Kolhapur: Kolhapur district has received 70% of the total fund sanctioned by the state government for financial year 2018-19 till now. There are two months left in the financial year still, but the 30% that remains will now be used by the state government for drought mitigation and may not come to the district.State revenue minister Chandrakant Patil said at a press conference after the meeting of the District Planning Development Committee (DPDC) on Monday that any money left-over after expenditure on drought-related schemes could be released for the district.“For the year 2018-19, government had made provision of Rs 263 crore. Rs 192 crore has been disbursed till date. The remaining amount is around 30%. The state government is making provision for expenditure on drought-related schemes. The government will release the remaining fund, depending on the expenditure on drought relief, to the district.”“For 2019-20, we have proposed district fund amounting to Rs 362 crore, Rs 99 crore more than the previous year. The proposal will be sent to the state government for approval,” the minister said, explaining that a proposal for setting up RO plants in 56 villages has been made, so villages on the banks of the Panchganga River get safe drinking water. “We have included 19 villages in the ‘C’ category of pilgrimage sites where more than one lakh devotees visit in a year. These villages will get funds from the state government for development of pilgrimage sites,” he said.
