Retired IRB officer held in bribery case

Girish Gode, deputy superintendent of police (ACB), said, "On July 17, we had caught six IRB officials for accepting bribe of Rs40,000 from the complainant who were jawans attached with the IRB. He was produced before a local court following which he has been remanded in three-day police custody." Based on the complaint we set trap on July 17 and arrested the accused. One of the eight jawans lodged a complaint with us. They were transferred to Kolhapur for sports competitions that were scheduled in August, 2018.

KOLHAPUR: Seven months after six officials of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) were arrested in connection with accepting bribe of Rs40,000, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (Kolhapur) sleuths arrested a retired IRB commandant who was in-charge of the Kolhapur division at that time over charges of accepting bribe.The accused has been identified as Khushal Vittal Sapkale (59), a resident of Bhavaninagar in Mumbai. Girish Gode, deputy superintendent of police (ACB), said, "On July 17, we had caught six IRB officials for accepting bribe of Rs40,000 from the complainant who were jawans attached with the IRB. They were transferred to Kolhapur for sports competitions that were scheduled in August, 2018. The accused had demanded bribe of Rs 5,000 each from them to grant permission to train for the sporting event failing to which they would have been sent on patrolling duty. One of the eight jawans lodged a complaint with us. Based on the complaint we set trap on July 17 and arrested the accused."He added, "Sapkale was on leave on that day but during investigation we found that the some part of the bribe was to be given to Sapkale. He was produced before a local court following which he has been remanded in three-day police custody."
