Valuables worth Rs 23 lakh stolen in two break-ins

The jewellery, amounting to around Rs18 lakh in value, was stolen from his shop. He found that a small cupboard that had contained gold and silver jewellery had been stolen from the shop. When he returned to the shop on Thursday morning, he found that the locks of the shutter of his shop had been broken. After entering the shop, he found that the material from the shop had been scattered everywhere. The incident occurred at around 3.45am on Wednesday night.

Kolhapur: Unidentified men broke open two jewellery shops located at different places in Kolhapur city and decamped with valuables collectively worth Rs23 lakh from them.The robbers managed to steal gold and silver worth Rs18 lakh from one shop and worth Rs5 lakh from the other shop in the city.The police are busy registering cases against unidentified people in their respective police stations.The jewellery shops, which are located on Jotiba road and Gangawesh road, were targeted by the robbers, said the police.“In one incident, the complainant, identified as Pramod Kallappa Kolekar, who owns the shop located on Jotiba road, had locked up his shop on Wednesday night before leaving for his house. When he returned to the shop on Thursday morning, he found that the locks of the shutter of his shop had been broken. After entering the shop, he found that the material from the shop had been scattered everywhere. He found that a small cupboard that had contained gold and silver jewellery had been stolen from the shop. The jewellery, amounting to around Rs18 lakh in value, was stolen from his shop. We are busy gathering additional details about the jewellery stolen as well as the amount of valuables stolen from the shop,” said a senior police officer.“We have recovered some CCTV camera footage from a spot located near the jewellery shop, in which three suspects have been found loitering near the shop before breaking the locks of the jewellery store. The incident occurred at around 3.45am on Wednesday night. We are additional gathering information based on this evidence and will track down the suspects involved in this crime soon,” he said.In another incident reported in the night intervening February 6 and 7, the suspects broke open the locks of a jewellery shop belonging to Santosh Shelke, located on Gangawesh road and decamped with gold and silver jewellery as well as cash of Rs66,000, the valuables are collectively worth Rs5 lakh.“We suspect that both the robberies have been committed by the same gang and we are gathering more information about the incident in order to nab the suspects involved in the crime,” added the officer.
