Kolhapur: Kolhapur police investigating the recent robbery cases including a bank robbery suspect that an inter-state gang is involved. “We are investigating the three robbery cases in which suspects had a similar modus operandi, breaking locks of shutters of shops and the bank and using a gas cutter. The probe suggests the involvement of a gang with members from neighbouring states,” a police officer involved in the investigation said.Police officers said they have sought the help of police in neighbouring districts across the state border, in Karnataka and other states.“Two days ago the gang that stole the vault of a jewellery shop in Kolhapur had thrown it on the Miraj-Pandharpur road. The vault was broken and empty. We recovered it and based that find, suspect that the gang stealing gold jewellery from shops might have moved towards Solapur or Vita,” he said.A gang of four suspects broke into branch of a cooperative bank at Kale village in Panhala taluka and decamped with valuables worth Rs one crore on Friday. On Thursday similar cases were reported in the city in which two jewellery shops were targeted.“We are already searching for gangs involved in similar crimes and using gas cutters to break locks of shutters of shops and houses. We are also in touch with jewellers suspected to be involved in purchasing the stolen jewellery,” the officer said.
