Biker run over by private bus at Dasara Chowk

KOLHAPUR: A 26-year-old motorcyclist was run over by a private bus at Dasara Chowk near KMT bus stop on Saturday.According to police, the deceased - Omkar Salunkhe, a resident of Prayag Chikhali in Karveer taluka - worked as an electrician with a private firm.When the accident took place, Salunkhe was on his way to work when his motorcycle slipped near the KMT bus stop. After getting information about the accident, a police team rushed to the spot and detained the driver of the private bus. At the same time a private bus was passing by and the victim came under the rear tyre of the vehicle.Passers-by immediately rushed for help and took Salunkhe to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje (CPR) civil hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. "CPR chowk which is included in the black spot is 30 meters away from where the accident occurred," he said. The police are busy registering a case against the driver of the bus.Vasant Babar, police inspector in-charge of Laxmipuri police station, said, "The incident took place at 8.45am.

The driver was taking the bus from CBS to the parking area. We detained him after the incident and released him after questioning."He added, "As per procedure we have registered a case of accident and have issued notice to the driver under section 209 of Motor Vehicle Act which is a part of procedure. We will investigate the case and based on our investigation will take action against him," he said.Babar said that the spot where the accident took place was not included in the list of the black spots in the city. "CPR chowk which is included in the black spot is 30 meters away from where the accident occurred," he said."Salunkhe was working at a private firm and his father passed away 10 years ago. He was the only earning member of the family and his mother was searching for a bride for him. The sudden news of his death has shocked her," a relative of Salunkhe said.
