Future of pools stuck in bureaucratic formalities

Kolhapur: The committee meeting which was supposed to discuss the fate of the swimming pools in the divisional sports complex is not happened yet due to the transfer of former district collector Avinash Subhedar. It has to be noted that the visual inspection report from the IIT stated that “The pools show signs of distress due to uplift pressure from the groundwater table. The distress occurred because an adequate de-watering system was not adopted during the construction.” According to the district sports office, new collector Daulat Desai has not yet been intimated about the issue.Chandrashekhar Sakhare, the District Sports Officer, told TOI that he is yet to discuss the issue with the new collector, who is also a member of the concerned committee. Apart from the two swimming pools, the completion of the remaining work of the shooting range and the commencement of the second phase of works will also be discussed, he said.The committee members include the divisional commissioner, district collector, two representatives from the public works department, superintendent of police, deputy sports director, district sports officer and two expert engineers.

According to the district sports office, new collector Daulat Desai has not yet been intimated about the issue.Chandrashekhar Sakhare, the District Sports Officer, told TOI that he is yet to discuss the issue with the new collector, who is also a member of the concerned committee. “There is a possibility that we might discuss it on the upcoming Friday, February 22,” he said.Sakhare said that the committee members were earlier supposed to meet on February 8 to discuss the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay report on the swimming pools, which has suggested implementing the de-watering system for the swimming pools in order to eradicate the current issue of leakage of the nearby nullah water into the swimming pools.He added that the meeting was important, as it would also try to find out some alternatives as well.
