IIM director to be chief guest at SUK convocation

Kolhapur: The Director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Tiruchirappalli, Dr Bhimraya Metri will be the chief guest of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur’s (SUK) 55th convocation ceremony to be held on February 22, later this week.Earlier, the varsity had said that Dr S C Sharma, Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was supposed to attend the function as its chief guest. Students have been asked to carry an ID for the collection of the certificate. However, due to some personal reasons, Sharma had to cancel his visit.Meanwhile, a notification from the varsity on Monday added that for the said ceremony, state governor and chancellor C Vidyasagar Rao will be heading the function. The representatives of the colleges have been asked to collect the certificates from the university for the graduation day ceremony.The PhD, MPhil, and distance education students who opted for in-person degrees will get their certificates at the varsity campus from 8am to 1pm on February 22. The notification also clarified that from this year onwards, the degree distribution will be conducted at the respective colleges of the candidates across Sangli, Satara, and Kolhapur districts, which will be called as the ‘Graduation day ceremony’.“Those candidates who had marked the option of obtaining the degree certificate ‘in person’ in the convocation ceremony, which used to be the tradition earlier until last year, has been changed and these candidates will be distributed their certificates by their respective colleges,” it added.While for those who had opted for getting the certificates in absentia via courier will be getting the certificates within a month from the day of the convocation.
