KOLHAPUR: In Western Maharashtra , the Congress' interest is restricted to two Lok Sabha constituencies. Former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde is set to fight from his home district of Solapur.The Congress is finding it tough to select a candidate for Sangli , which was known as its bastion a few years ago. Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi has announced to contest from Solapur seat. Prakash Ambedkar, himself, is interested in Solapur but is yet to take a decision. Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi candidate may prove a serious challenge for Congress because of division of anti-BJP votes. Raju Shetti is contesting from Hatkangale for the third time in a row. He is being challenged by Dhairyasheel Mane of the Shiv Sena . The BJP has taken this seat seriously as party wants to defeat Shetti, who has been attacking the party bitterly ever since he left the NDA.The NCP has set the target of double-digit seats in Maharashtra in the current Lok sabha elections. It can hope to bag maximum number of seats from Western Maharashtra considering its past record.
