Kolhapur: The Sangli police cracked a murder case within two days and arrested the suspect who allegedly committed the crime suspecting the victim to have done black magic against his family.The suspect, Nitin Sridhar Gade (42), a resident of Relekar plot at Sanjaynagar in Sangli, was produced in a local court on Monday and remanded in police custody till March 14.Police said that Gade, who was picked up from a hideout at Nrusinhwadi, has confessed to murdering his neighbour, Suresh Sakharam Pashte (55).A officer attached with the Sangli city police station said that Pashte was attacked with a sharp weapon at the main chowk in the Mangalwar Bazar area on Friday night, when he was returning home after work.“Pashte was a employee in a hospital canteen in Sangli. When he was returning home on his bicycle, the suspect followed him on his motorcycle and attacked him after obstructing his way,” he said, adding that a traffic policeman on duty at the spot gave the suspect a chase but could not nab him,” he said.The officer said that soon after the murder police formed a team which examined the CCTV footage from the area where the deceased was working and looked for other clues as well.“As part of their investigation, police inquired from the family members of the victim if they had any dispute with someone. They said that Paste did not have enemies, except that their neighbour, Gade, had quarrelled with him while alleging that he was doing black magic to his family about a decade ago,” he said.“Based on this, we inquired about the neighbour but found him absconding. A hunt was launched and, acting on information, Gade was nabbed at Nrusinhwadi,” said the officer.The officer said that the suspect, under interrogation, admitted that 10 years ago, the Pashte family had done some black magic against him and his family.“Gade was nursing a grudge against his neighbour and finally decided to eliminate him,” added the officer.
