CVigil application gets nodal officer

KOLHAPUR: The district election office has appointed a nodal officer for quick action on the complaints raised on the cVIGIL application, which is available free on Google Play store.While assistant salex tax officer Nitin Bangar has been appointed as the nodal officer, two other officials also have been appointed under him.Daulat Desai, district returning officer, said filing of nominations will begin on March 18 and from that day the mobile application will be available for the citizens.Deputy election officer Satish Dhumal appealed to people to use the application cVIGIL, which stands for "citizens' vigil" to report cases of poll code violations.He said using this app, a person can send geo-tagged videos and photos about the violation of code of conduct to the authorities. "If any violation of the moral code is seen by people, like use of money, gifts or liquor to influence voters, muscle power to intimidate voters, or hate speech, then people can take a picture or video and report it through this app. And, within 100 minutes from that time, a returning officer has to dispose of the case," Dhumal said, adding that on the app a user can choose to keep his identity anonymous.When asked, how would the misuse of the app can be avoided by rival parties, Dhumal said there was no solution on it.
