KOLHAPUR: A gang of five armed robbers stormed into a branch of a nationalized bank at Shenoli village in the Karad taluka of Satara district , 17km away from Karad on Monday afternoon and looted cash of Rs 22 lakh and 100 gms of gold jewellery after locking the staff and customers in the safe room. The police have launched a search operation for the gang."At 3.45pm, a gang of four to five robbers came in two cars, stopped the cars outside the bank and entered the bank armed with pistols. One of them fired on the wall of the bank and threatened the bank officials and customers not to move from the spot. They later locked all the bank officials and customers in the safe room of the bank. They then entered the strong room and cash cabin and took cash of Rs 22 lakh and 100 gms of gold jewellery. They packed all this in a sack that they were carrying with them and fled from the spot. They also took away the mobile phones of the customers along with them," said a police officer from Karad.
