Ma Ta Katta, an initiative by Maharashtra Times has been encouraging students to come out and voice their opinions before the election . Recently, women from Shivaji University’s hostel participated in a discussion under this initiative, spelling out their expectations from the upcoming government. These students feel that women’s safety should not be politicised but at the same time, steps to ensure it should be taken.The change these students feel should start with a change in perspective towards women. For these, there should be gender sensitization workshops. Moreover, there are many laws to safeguard women, but they are not implemented properly.
