Duo booked for cheating 73-year-old woman

Kolhapur: Two men were booked for stealing gold ornaments weighing 130g from a 73-year-old woman on the pretext of polishing them. The duo helped Pratibha to remove rings from her toes and polished them with the powder to prove their point. They pretended to put the jewellery inside the cooker and asked Pratibha to wait till the cooker cools down, after which she may remove the ornaments. She realised that she was cheated by the duo when she opened the cooker after they left,” he said.“”We have registered a case against unidentified persons under Section 420 (Cheating and dishonesty) of the IPC. After they earned Pratibha’s confidence, she handed them 130 gram of gold jewellery for polishing,” said a police officer with Hatkanangle police station.“The duo asked her to bring them a pressure cooker and mixed water and powder in it.

The incident took place on Monday at the senior citizen’s residence and a complaint has been registered at Hatkanangle police station.The complainant, identified as Pratibha Bhimrao Chougule, is a resident of Malbhag in Herle.“The complainant and her husband reside in Herle village and their relatives reside in Kolhapur. On Monday morning, when Pratibha was at home by herself, two persons came and told her that they are employees of state government and the government has manufactured a powder that gives shine to gold and silver jewellery. The duo helped Pratibha to remove rings from her toes and polished them with the powder to prove their point. After they earned Pratibha’s confidence, she handed them 130 gram of gold jewellery for polishing,” said a police officer with Hatkanangle police station.“The duo asked her to bring them a pressure cooker and mixed water and powder in it. They pretended to put the jewellery inside the cooker and asked Pratibha to wait till the cooker cools down, after which she may remove the ornaments. She realised that she was cheated by the duo when she opened the cooker after they left,” he said.“”We have registered a case against unidentified persons under Section 420 (Cheating and dishonesty) of the IPC. We are gathering information about the suspects,” he said.
