Fake notes with face value of Rs 20 lakh seized, 4 held

Kolhapur: In a major action ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, a team of local crime branch of Kolhapur police has arrested a gang of four men and seized fake notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 with total face value of Rs 20 lakh from them.The suspects have been identified as Balu Suleman Nayakawadi (56) of Nayakawadi lane (Bacnahi, Kagal taluka), Pravin Narayan Gadkari (36) of Gadbidri, Vikram Krishnat Mane (32), of Bediv village and Gurunath Dadu Patil (25) of Bamane, all from Bhudargad taluka in Kolhapur district .A local court on Thursday remanded the suspects in police custody till March 29.Kolhapur superintendent of police Abhinav Deshmukh said the LCB team laid a trap at Bachani village following a tip-off that a man would come there to deliver fake notes.“On Wednesday, the team rounded up Nayakawadi soon after he arrived in the vilalge and seized 626 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from his motorcycle,” he saidDeshmukh said that Nayakawadi revealed under interrogation that the notes had been given to him by two of his friends, whose main source was a photographer based in Bamane village of Bhudargad taluka.“Our team arrested all the four suspects and seized 456 fake notes in Rs 2,000 denomination and 1,557 notes with a face value of Rs 5000,” he said.“We have also seized material worth Rs 52,000 that the suspects used for printing the notes,” added Deshmukh.
