KOLHAPUR: An IAS officer shot and wounded his wife, then killed himself by hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom at Marvade village in Mangalvedha taluka of Solapur around midnight on Friday. Doctors said the woman's condition was stable.Police said Vijaykumar Pawar (55) had a quarrel with his wife, Sonali (27), after doubting her character.Solapur SP (rural) Manoj Patil told TOI this was Pawar's third marriage. "We have recovered a suicide note from his clothes and are probing the incident. Sonali lodged a complaint from hospital and her health is stable, is what we can say. Our first priority remains her health," he said.Sonali told the police she and her husband had regular quarrels primarily because of his alcohol addiction. The FIR said that on Thursday, "Pawar fired two shots at Sonali from his licensed revolver - one below her eye and one in the arm. Before opening fire, Pawar had locked the bedroom".Villagers heard the gunshots and informed the police.A cop said, "We immediately rushed the duo to hospital. While doctors declared Pawar brought dead, Sonali was shifted to a private hospital in Solapur."Pawar was joint secretary with the skills development department of the state government, sources said.
