City celebrates Rangpanchami, commercial areas shut till 4pm

Kolhapur: All the city roads were covered in different colours on Monday, as the occasion of Rangpanchami was celebrated with much zest across the city. The only difference earlier was that people would choose to celebrate the day among their friends and family. These celebrations were mostly led by the youth of the city. The students took advantage of the perfect opportunity for a get-together on their bikes, while friends and families were also seen exchanging gifts with the festive spirit. Now, people have got social media to show off their special celebrations.”It has to be noted that in Kolhapur, the festival is celebrated on Rangapanchami, which is five days after the Holika Dahan, while it is celebrated on the very next day after the Holika dahan, known as Dhulivandan, in other parts of the state.

The city areas witnessed various faces rendered unrecognizable with splashes of colour and gulal strewn on the streets as well.The celebration, in which youths were seen riding their bikes with their friends, also had to draw their inspiration from the children, who led the charge with water guns and water balloons while using different colours for the same.The Holi celebrations began early in the morning in the city and continued till late in the afternoon. These celebrations were mostly led by the youth of the city. The students took advantage of the perfect opportunity for a get-together on their bikes, while friends and families were also seen exchanging gifts with the festive spirit. The girls and women were not behind in the celebration as groups of friends and families could be seen enjoying the day of colours while listening to the beats of the music that was being played.The commercial areas in the city like Rajarampuri, Mahadwar road and Laxmipuri were closed until 4pm due to the planned celebrations and opened only in the evening.About the Rangpanchami celebrations, Sanket Patil, a city resident said, “Even though the times have definitely changed, thank god the nature of the celebrations hasn’t. The only difference earlier was that people would choose to celebrate the day among their friends and family.
