Kolhapur: Despite Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state chief Jayant Patil saying the road ahead would be tough if alliance partner Congress continues to support rival candidates, supporters of Congress MLC Satej Patil campaigned for Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Mandlik for Lok Sabha polls.On Sunday, the state NCP chief said that the Congress MLC should support the candidate who is contesting as part of the Congress-NCP alliance, Dhananjay Mahadik. The NCP chief warned that if the MLC continued to oppose Mahadik, his political career would be in jeopardy.Unmindful of the threat, the Congress MLC has not responded and his supporters continued to campaign for Mandlik.A senior supporter of Satej Patil, on the condition of anonymity, said, “NCP leaders are desperate for our support. However, they should be reminded that their leaders have worked against us in the last state assembly election, even though we supported their candidate in the last LS election. The message is clear: Defeat of the NCP candidate is imminent. The backstabbing in the last assembly election has not been forgotten, and the NCP leadership has not addressed our concerns in the last five years.”It is likely that Satej Patil too will openly start the campaign after Mandlik files nomination papers.
