Kolhapur: Some parts of the city receive water supply right through the day, while some others go dry for days on end. This was evident at a meeting between corporators and officials of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Saturday. The corporators found 13 wards where water is supplied without a break, right through the day, even as a major part of the city does not receive water for two to three days at a stretch. Officials said that water supply is not regulated in some wards because of a dearth of staff.Corporators sought details of water supply details in each of the 81 wards, and wanted officials to check if supply on alternate days was possible in E ward, from where several complaints were received.Sharangdhar Deshmukh, chairman of the standing committee who had called the meeting said, “I have asked for details of the wards where continuous water supply takes place. We will also get details of wards where water supply is inadequate. We want corrections in water supply schedule so people of all wards get a fair quantity of water. The new schedule will be fixed in the next one week. After that, we will run another check. There is demand from corporators of E ward to start alternate day water supply in the whole of the city, which is not possible. I have asked officials to check whether alternate day water supply is possible in E ward so they get adequate supply at least once in two days.”Deputy mayor Bhupal Shete directed officials to arrange for supply through tankers if water shortage is reported.
