Kolhapur: The Narendra Modi-led government has attacked Indian democracy, diversity and development during the last five years of their rule, said Yogendra Yadav, secretary of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC).He added that people were looking for an alternative but the Mahagathbandhan has failed to give them hope. He was in Kolhapur to attend a rally convened by Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader Raju Shetti to file his nomination for Lok Sabha from Hatkanangle constituency.“BJP-led government at centre has attacked the independence of several constitutional organisations. The farmers distress has increased during last five years and it seems that the government does not care for them. The Mahagathbandhan that has formed to fight against BJP-led alliance is only fighting for its own survival. The safety of nation is far away from their agenda. People want change and are searching for better option to vote,” he told TOI.He added that he had come to Kolhapur to extend support of over 200 farmers’ organisations to Raju Shetti in this Lok Sabha election.“He is the first person, who, despite being part of NDA, dared to speak against Narendra Modi and his policies that were anti-farmers. He has tabled two bills in the parliament seeking loan waiver for farmers across the country and a guaranteed remunerative prices for agricultural commodities, which are milestones providing security to the farmers. His victory will be seen as the victory of all the farmers and organisations fighting for rights of farmers,” he said.Yadav said that he feels that the 2019 Lok Sabha election was third important election after 1952 and 1977. In 1952, the country showed that it was capable of conducting elections democratically and forming a government. In 1977, people again showed that they are against Emergency. “Now, it is time for people to show that they have faith in democracy and fight against parties having anti-democracy attitude,” he said.“Elections should be fought on issues and not on the feelings like patriotism and attack on Pakistan. The real issues are the distress faced by farmers, policies that have failed to generate employment, increase in the poverty, government manipulating and hiding data of various organisations which compares the growth of the nation. Both ruling and opposition parties should face people with these real issue while campaigning for elections,” he said.
