Mallinath Kalshetti appoints officers for upkeep of 53 gardens

KOLHAPUR: Municipal commissioner Mallinath Kalshetti has appointed one officer for each of the 53 gardens falling under the jurisdiction of the civic administration.The officers will be the ‘guardian’ of the gardens and look after their maintenance as well as report the status of the gardens to the civic chief. Moreover, there is not enough staff to look after the gardens. The officials will ensure that the staff of the gardens department treat the complaints of the locals on a serious note.“We are going to undertake a massive drive to plant trees this monsoon. The decision of the municipal commissioner will be implemented after the Lok Sabha elections.

KOLHAPUR: Municipal commissioner Mallinath Kalshetti has appointed one officer for each of the 53 gardens falling under the jurisdiction of the civic administration.The officers will be the ‘guardian’ of the gardens and look after their maintenance as well as report the status of the gardens to the civic chief. The decision of the municipal commissioner will be implemented after the Lok Sabha elections. The guardian officer is expected to visit the gardens at least twice a week and look after the requirement based on the feedback from the locals.A senior official of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) requesting anonymity said, “The officers have been assigned the task to visit the gardens in their locality. They will have to ensure that the gardens are maintained properly by the staff of the garden department, adequate water is available for the trees and facilities such as open gyms, drinking water and sanitation are in good shape. The officers have been appointed. The actual work will start after the end of the code of conduct. The municipal commissioner has taken it upon himself to look after Tarabai Garden which is near to his residence.”Kalshetti took the decision of appointing officers for the gardens after locals complained about the lack of proper upkeep by the staff of the garden department. Moreover, there is not enough staff to look after the gardens. The officials will ensure that the staff of the gardens department treat the complaints of the locals on a serious note.“We are going to undertake a massive drive to plant trees this monsoon. The officers will be given a target to plant trees in the gardens. Moreover, the officers will have to consult the locals and draft plans to develop facilities in the gardens,” said the official adding that the officer would also be responsible for the works that would be undertaken with the help of funds pouring in from corporate social responsibility (CSR).
