Dist collector warns of action against violators

Kolhapur: District collector and returning officer Daulat Desai warned that strict action would be taken against those found violating the model code of conduct.The review meeting on election preparation held on Sunday was attended by chief executive officer of Kolhapur zilla parishad Aman Mittal, municipal commissioner Mallinath Kalshetti, additional district collector Nandkumar Katkar, additional superitendent of police Shriniwas Ghadge, resident deputy collector Sanjay Shinde among other authorities.Desai instructed the static surveillance teams (SST) and flying squads across the constituencies to carefully monitor if everyone was complying with the model code of conduct. He further directed that action be taken against those who were found guilty of violating the code of conduct.“Action will be taken against political rallies, meetings as well as corner meeting that are conducted without prior permission. Election officers, police, tehsildar, block development officers, talathi and gram sevaks should start checking for violations,” said Desai.The district collector also said that the expenditure committees should start shortlisting the areas where there maybe high chances of political expenditure. “Surprise visits should be made to such areas,” said Desai.Besides the SSTs and the flying squads, the income tax department, the police and the excise department should keep a check on the flow of money, liquor and gifts during the election period.Talking about the voter awareness campaigns to be conducted as part of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, Desai said that the authorities should chalk out street plays, chunav pathshala and home visits for increasing awareness among voters and also rope in transgenders for the programme.Talking about the facilities in the voting centres, Desai said that every polling booth should have electricity, water, ramp and wheelchairs for people with disabilities.
