CID to focus on complainant’s statement in multiple theft case

Kolhapur: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) team — probing the multiple theft cases involving nine people, including seven police officials amounting to Rs 9 crore — on Saturday said they will be investigating the statement of the complainant. Initially, he lodged a complaint that Rs 4.50 crore was stolen from his office, but later claimed that Rs 14 crore was kept in his office. All the policemen have been suspended and they did not resume office since the day they were booked in Kodoli police station. "We will be investigating the claims made by the complainant.

Kolhapur: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) team — probing the multiple theft cases involving nine people, including seven police officials amounting to Rs 9 crore — on Saturday said they will be investigating the statement of the complainant."We will be investigating the claims made by the complainant. We'll also try to find out reason behind delay in lodging the complaint and why he did not disclose the amount initially," said a senior CID official.A team of senior CID officials, including IG state CID (Crime) Ravindra Kadam, was in Kolhapur since April 20 and gathered all necessary information collected by Kolhapur police so far regarding the multiple theft case.According to the police, the complainant, Zunjar Sarnobat, lodged a complaint after Sangli police arrested Mulla and visited his office in connection with theft case. Initially, he lodged a complaint that Rs 4.50 crore was stolen from his office, but later claimed that Rs 14 crore was kept in his office."In Sarnobat's office there is only one cupboard that was broken by the accused and we are trying to figure out if the cupboard can accumulate the huge cash in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000," said an official from Local Crime Branch, Kolhapur.Meanwhile, CID officials have launched a drive to find out the whereabouts of the culprits involved in the crime.Mulla and his friend Jadhav, who were arrested earlier, are absconding. The seven police officials — including a police inspector and an assistant police inspector — are also absconding since cases were registered against them. All the policemen have been suspended and they did not resume office since the day they were booked in Kodoli police station.
