Police raid 5 gambling dens, arrest 7

The police will take action against anyone they find to be involved in illegal businesses like running matka dens, gambling and producing country liquor. "The raids will continue in the city and we have appealed to the people to provide us with any information pertinent to such illegal raids in their vicinity. The police expect the crackdown to tighten their grip on anti-social elements and help in maintaining law and order for the next few months. "A special team appointed by Prashant Amrutkar, deputy superintendent of police, Kolhapur city conducted surprise raids in the Market Yard area on Monday and nabbed the culprits involved in taking bets at various matka dens," said a police official. We can then act on their information and nab the culprits.

Kolhapur: Police conducted raids at five places in the city and arrested 7 people that were allegedly found taking matka bets.Police have hinted that the drive will continue in the district till these types of illegal activities are weeded out.The arrested have been identified as Nitin Chandrakant Kamble (42, resident of Vichare Mal area), Sujit Sunil Waskar (27, from Kumbhar lane), Nitin Prabhakar Bhosale (30, from Malwadi, Shiroli Pulachi), Mahesh Bhimrao Kalagati (36, from Sfurti chowk, Vishram bag, Sangli), Amol Rohidas Lokhande (26, from Vichare Mal area), Mahesh Baburao Jadhav (35, from Laxtirtha Vasahat) and Zakir Gulam Bhaldar (50, resident of Mukta Sainik Vasahat)."A special team appointed by Prashant Amrutkar, deputy superintendent of police, Kolhapur city conducted surprise raids in the Market Yard area on Monday and nabbed the culprits involved in taking bets at various matka dens," said a police official."The raids will continue in the city and we have appealed to the people to provide us with any information pertinent to such illegal raids in their vicinity. We are also getting information from our insider sources and are conducting raids at such illegal spots," he added.Police have initiated action against such illegal activities to ensure that the forthcoming festivals in the district are celebrated peacefully and law and order is maintained during the period.
