Co-op bank gets Rs 254cr from RBI against old notes

Kolhapur: The Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank ( KDCCB ) has received Rs 254 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), against the same amount of scrapped currency notes it has deposited after demonetisation in November last year. "Chairman of the bank MLA Hasan Mushrif has already demanded rechecking of 'know your customer' details of depositors of these notes through the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development.

Kolhapur: The Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank ( KDCCB ) has received Rs 254 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), against the same amount of scrapped currency notes it has deposited after demonetisation in November last year. However, the Rs 25 crore deposited on November 08, 2016, the day of announcement of demonetisation, is still a concern for the bank.On November 13, last year, the RBI had put restrictions on district cooperative banks on deposition of old notes on suspicion of illegal activities. Till then, account holders had deposited old notes of Rs 279.78 crore in the bank. On June 20, the government allowed district banks to deposit the scrapped notes in the apex bank. However, the RBI did not accept notes deposited in coop banks on November 8, 2016.Pratap Chavan, chief executive officer of KDCCB, said, "The RBI had accepted old notes of Rs 254 crore on July 13. And it credited the same amount on our account. But concerns regarding the remaining Rs 25 crore is still there. We have written a letter to the RBI."Chairman of the bank MLA Hasan Mushrif has already demanded rechecking of 'know your customer' details of depositors of these notes through the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development.
