7 police team try to crack sandalwood robbery case

Though we recovered CCTV footage from a place along the route where some culprits are visible, the footage is unclear.

Kolhapur: Police are yet to get a breakthrough in the robbery case of sandalwood and sandalwood oil worth Rs 70.5 lakh that stolen from a forest department nursery at Chikhali in Karveer taluka on Tuesday.Seven police teams are working on this and are trying to find culprits involved. The gang stormed into the forest department's nursery at Chikhali on Tuesday early morning. They decamped with booty worth Rs 70.5 lakh in the forest department's custody.The stolen material include, sandalwood oil worth Rs 60 lakh, red sandalwood worth Rs 9 lakh and sandalwood logs worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The material had been seized by the police department in various raids held in 2010 and 2012.Suraj Gurav, deputy superintendent of police, Karveer division, said, "We are trying to get clues regarding the culprits. Though we recovered CCTV footage from a place along the route where some culprits are visible, the footage is unclear."He added that they were also gathering information about the cases in 2010 and 2012, where the stolen material had been seized. "We are trying to reach out to those booked in these cases. Once we do so, we will interrogate them regarding the recent incident and try to find out if they are involved in this, he said."We have already alerted all police stations in the district and are constantly following up on the investigation. Details of criminals on record were involved in such crimes is also being analysed to get more clues. We will soon nab them," he said.
