Zero pendency: 39,000 out of 45,000 files cleared

"Subhedar said that on May 31, there were over 45,000 files pending in the district and the department has cleared as many as 39,326 files. Under this drive, a total of 13,27,183 files were stored in the record room and 8,22,264 files were disposed. Kolhapur: The district administration officials that were busy in checking and sorting old documents in their offices for disposal of pending cases have cleared around 39,000 files out of 45,000 files so far.As part of the zero pendency drive, the revenue department has also found around 31 tonne of documents that has been pending with them. "Among the remaining pending files, most of them are related to demand of land by different sections of society and other such files which will be also cleared soon," he said.He added, "There are number of complaints about citizens that their works are delayed. Most of the time, the reasons are given that citizens do not have documents.

All these documents have been sold as scrap by the department. These include documents since establishment of Kolhapur district and also some pre-independence documents that were from the era when Kolhapur was princely state.Speaking about their efforts, district collector Avinash Subhedar said, "In the drive initiated by divisional commissioner Chandrakant Dalavi, we are the first in Pune division and have completed 86% of the total work. This has helped us in making all the record up to date. This will help us in providing efficient service to citizens and for any old matter, the citizen will easily get references and details about it within a short span. His work will not be kept pending due to reasons like clerks unable to get records."He added, "All the records are kept in a series and in such a way that the information will be handy for clerks to pick up and clear files. The work was done in two phases. In first phase from May 1 to May 31, the record room was modernised with modern storage facility that is fire proof.
