All dams in dist filled to capacity, Radhanagari releasing 5,000 cusec

The capacity of Warana dam is 27.52ft and it is filled to its capacity.Koyna dam, one of the major dams in south Maharashtra with a storage capacity of 105TMC, is also full to its capacity and 9,297 cusec water is being discharged from the dam. The district administration has issued high alert to the people living in villages and towns on the banks of rivers and instructed them to be ready to relocate in case of an emergency. The alert level is at 39 feet and danger level at 43 feet. All the six gates of the dam are opened to release water.

Water discharge from dams into rivers continued on Wednesday which has resulted in rise in river water levels.According to the regional meteorological centre in Mumbai, Kolhapur district will receive heavy rainfall in the next two days and normal rain in the next three days.The water level of Panchganga river at Rajaram KT weir was 28 feet on Wednesday. The alert level is at 39 feet and danger level at 43 feet. The district administration has issued high alert to the people living in villages and towns on the banks of rivers and instructed them to be ready to relocate in case of an emergency."Though there is no danger at present, if the rainfall continues in the district with same intensity, it may pose danger to the people living on the banks of rivers," a district administration official said.From Radhanagari dam 5,000 cusec water is being released in the Bhogawati river.According to the Kolhapur district administration, 33 KT weirs in the district have been submerged -- seven each on Panchganga and Dudhganga rivers, six on Bhogavati river, four each on Warana and Kumbhi rivers, three on Kasari river and two on Vedganga river.Water discharge from Warana dam in Sangli district and Koyna dam in Satara district also continued on Wednesday.Kolhapur district received 457mm rainfall on Tuesday with Gaganbawada taluka recording the highest (93mm) rainfall, followed by 54mm each in Radhanagari and Ajara. The rainfall at Bhudargad was 45mm on Tuesday, followed by Shahuwadi (40mm), Kagal (36mm), Panhala (31mm) Hatkanangle (6mm) and Shirol (3mm).Officials from the water resources department said 23,548 cusec water from Warana (Chandoli) dam is being discharged into the Warana river.
