6 get rigorous imprisonment for assaulting Mahadiscom junior engineer

KOLHAPUR: The district and sessions court here sentenced six people to five years of rigorous imprisonment for attacking a junior engineer attached with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (Mahadiscom) at Peth Vadgaon and threatening to murder him while he was on duty in 2009.The court presided over by district and sessions judge L D Bille found them guilty of attempting to set on fire victim Sandip Bhanudas Gawade. He, however, survived the attack and lodged a complaint against the attackers.The court examined 13 witnesses and convicted the six accused.The seventh accused in the case, Mohan Sadashiv Awale (27), died during the hearing of case. The court also slapped fine of Rs 15,000 on each of them and six months of imprisonment if they fail pay the fine.The convicts have been identified as Shivaji Mahadev Awale (35) of Indira colony, Tayyab Bashir Khatik (30) of Bhadole Road, Yogesh Suresh Suryavanshi (32) of Yadav colony, Amol Shivaji Jadhav (27), near Ambedkar college, Suresh Mahadev Awale (31), Indira colony, all residents of Peth Vadgaon, and Gajanan Shamrao Dhanawade (43) of Bhadole in Hatkanangle taluka).According to the prosecution, on April 9, 2009, a two-year-old baby, identified as Suryaksha Sanjay Mali, of Gosavi lane in Peth Vadgaon, died due to electric shock when he touched a mini-feeder below an electric pole outside a powerloom factory.
