Now, voters registration drive to include NRI’s info | Election Commission will collect data of Non Resident Indians

In a first, the election commission will collect data of Non Resident Indians (NRI) during the voter registration drive that will start from Wednesday. Booth level officers (BLO) have been instructed in this regard. They will visit houses in the locality assigned for them during the registration drive. Sanjay Shinde the resident deputy collector, said that according to the election commission's directives, we will take up the drive from November 15 to 30 in the district. This is a nationwide drive and will be launched at the same time across the country.

Kolhapur: In a first, the election commission will collect data of Non Resident Indians (NRI) during the voter registration drive that will start from Wednesday.Booth level officers (BLO) have been instructed in this regard. They will visit houses in the locality assigned for them during the registration drive.Sanjay Shinde the resident deputy collector, said, "According to the election commission's directives, we will take up the drive from November 15 to 30 in the district. This is a nationwide drive and will be launched at the same time across the country. There are 3,285 polling booths in the district and we have appointed one BLO for each polling booth to visit every house and register the voter in the list."He added that this is first time that information will be gathered about NRIs present in the district. "The data compiled in the given format will be sent to the election commission," he said."We appeal to citizens who wish to get their names included or deleted to avail the facility during the BLO's visit to their houses during the drive. Our aim is to include all persons above 18 years of age in the voters list," he said.During the drive, the BLOs will fill up form number 6 to register those voters whose names will be missing from the list. "The names of people that have migrated from their mentioned address will be deleted. The drive will also help us identify names of deceased people in the list and these will be deleted. We will also take down cellphone numbers of the voters and issue instructions to those whose names are found repeating in the voters list before deleting these names," Shinde said.The resident deputy collector appealed to people to cooperate with the BLOs and give them detailed information. "The final voters list will be published in January 2018. The drive aims to ensure that everyone is included in the voters list," he said.
