Sp IG issues show-cause notice to 2 senior officers

"We have issued notices to the concerned police officers in connection with the death of Aniket Kothale. "The CID has obtained the CCTV footage from the Sangli police station. The case has been handed over to the CID.Additional superintendent of police (CID) Narendra Gaikwad said, "Charge sheet in the case will be filed within 90 days. The officials have been directed to file their replies within eight days. The police have arrested five policemen and seven others have been suspended.

KOLHAPUR: Two senior police officials were served show-cause notices in connection with the custodial killing of 26-year-old man at Sangli police station.Special inspector general of police, Kolhapur range, Vishwas Nangare Patil, has served the notices to Dattatraya Shinde , superintendent of police, Sangli district, and city deputy superintendent of police, Dipali Kale for their alleged negligence on duty.After inspector Ravindra Shelake, in-charge of Sangli city police station, went on leave for 15 days. As per rule, a senior police should have been handed over the charge of the police station which was not done by these officers.Patil has sought explanation from the officials for not appointing an in-charge for city police station while Shelake was on leave. The officials have been directed to file their replies within eight days. "A departmental enquiry will be initiated after receiving their replies," Patil said."We have issued notices to the concerned police officers in connection with the death of Aniket Kothale. The officers have also been asked to explain why there was a delay in action when two people including the deceased were missing from the police custody," said Patil.Aniket Kothale, who was arrested by Sangli city police on November 6, along with another man in a robbery case, died in police custody. Later, some policemen allegedly burned and tried to dump the body. The case has been handed over to the CID.Additional superintendent of police (CID) Narendra Gaikwad said, "Charge sheet in the case will be filed within 90 days. We are in the process of gathering evidence."The CID has obtained the CCTV footage from the Sangli police station. They are also questioning the people who were in contact with Aniket. The police have arrested five policemen and seven others have been suspended. "We are gathering evidences against the suspects so that they will be convicted in the court," Gaikwad said.Meanwhile, the guardian minister, Subhash Deshmukh and minister of state for home Dipak Kesarkar met the victim's family members handed over the cheque of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of state government on Tuesday.Both ministers assured the family members that the guilty will be punished and the state government will consider the option to provide a government job to one of the family members.Kesarkar also stated that the government will appoint senior advocate Ujwal Nikam as the public prosecutor for this case, and the case will be taken up at the fast-track court.
