more-in Fifteen persons have died and several were injured in Kolkata and districts of Bankura, Howrah, Hooghly during a Nor'wester on Tuesday night. Speaking to The Hindu, State's Disaster Management Minister Javed Khan said that seven persons died in Kolkata and six died in Howrah. In Hooghly and Bankura, two persons died during the storm. Mr. Khan also said that the death toll may increase further as the final number of casualties is yet to be determined. In Kolkata, the deaths took place in Behala on the south western part of the city, Anandapur on the eastern fringes, Lenin Sarani in central Kolkata and Salt Lake on the eastern fringes of the city. In Howrah,four persons died in the Belur town while two others died in Andul and Dumurjola area of the district. The deaths in Hooghly and Bankura district took place in Haripal and Indus blocks. Many roads in the main cities were blocked as the trees were uprooted obstructing traffic movement. Vehicles could be seen stranded for hours, following thunder storm and heavy downpour. Train services on both long-distance route and suburban line were disrupted since 8 pm on Tuesday night. Train services in both the Howrah and Sealdah Divisions restored, a Eastern Railway release noted. However, suburban trains services are “slightly delayed,” while long distance services are normal, the release noted.
