Elderly woman dies in bid to save son from RPF

KOLKATA: A 65-year-old woman lost her life while trying to save her son from being arrested by Railway Protection Force jawans, who were raiding a ladies special train to arrest male passengers. The incident took place at Habra railway station on the Sealdah-Bongaon section.Witness said the elderly, Laxmi Rani Mondal, almost jumped onto the platform from the moving train to prevent her son from being arrested. "The moment her foot touched the platform, she fell on her side and her head hit the ground. They were supposed to get down at the next station - Ashokenagar Road. The elderly received deep injuries on her head and started bleeding profusely," a stallowner said.She was rushed to Habra State General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.Sources said, the incident took place around 11.30am when the victim and her son, Amal Krishna Mondal, residents of Nadia's Haringhata, were on their way to a relative's house at Ashokenagar.The duo boarded the Down ladies special Bongaon-Sealdah train from platform number 2 of Habra station.
