The stretch connecting VIP Road with Jessore Road through the airport has been the worst. Adding woes to commuters, a portion of Jessore Road between airport Gate 2.5 and Gate 1has been cordoned off for the laying of an underground water pipeline. KOLKATA: Potholes, waterlogging, illegal parking and faulty traffic management have together been contributing to crippling jams on VIP Road and Jessore Road, regularly forcing passengers to airport to show up late for their flights. Potholes have started emerging on both flanks of VIP Road near Kaikhali, while the bitumen layer along a large portion near airport Gate 1 has been washed away, forcing cops to put guardrails around the craters that have surfaced. This, along with pedestrians running across the road amid speeding traffic and rickshaws and bicycles blocking the path, leads to a logjam.
