KOLKATA: A final year student of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute was rusticated from the institute by the officials on Thursday on charges of ragging Sources said, the victim junior student, a Bangladeshi national, had lodged a complaint against five senior final year students for allegedly assaulting him on the pretext of ragging last week. The student lodged a complaint with the institute officials as well as with the Panchasayar police station about the incident.Following the complaint, the institute’s anti ragging committee took up the matter, investigated the issue and found the allegations true against at least one of the five students and immediately debarred him from the institute. “It was proved that one of the senior students was directly involved with the crime and we took immediate action against him. This particular boy has been a serial offender and has a number of similar charges levelled against him in the past,” said Debamitra Mitra, the institute director.About the other students, Mitra said, “An enquiry is on but the committee is yet to place a final report on those four. Once the report is tabled we will take necessary actions against them too.”According to the complaint, the junior student was manhandled and humiliated by the five students during a 'wrap up party' at the institute on July 5.
