Class XII boy kills self on live video chat

KOLKATA: A Class XII boy on Wednesday midnight committed suicide during a live video chat with his girlfriend. According to the victim’s mother, the student, a resident of Baruipur, had a heated altercation with someone over the phone. The mother of the victim lodged a complaint against the girl with whom the boy apparently had a relationship. His phone is a vital evidence,” said additional SP Saikat Ghosh of Baruipur Police district.The victim’s mother said her son used to video chat with his friends. I tried to speak to him but he refused to talk about his relationship,” the victim’s mother said.The boy’s friends said the duo often quarrelled.

The mother of the victim lodged a complaint against the girl with whom the boy apparently had a relationship. Police initiated a probe under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of Indian Penal Code . According to the victim’s mother, the student, a resident of Baruipur, had a heated altercation with someone over the phone. “I went to bed around 12am. An hour later, some of his friends came rushing to our house and frantically knocked on the door. When I opened the door, one of them told me that my son had committed suicide by hanging himself in his room,” said the mother of the victim.She rushed to his room to find his son hanging from the ceiling fan. She later found the girl had called his friend to inform her son was committing suicide. On Thursday afternoon, the victim’s mother went to the police station and lodged a complaint against the girl for abetting him to commit suicide.Police reached the spot and retrieved the phone, which had got switched off by then. “We are leaving no stones unturned. We will look into the phone after getting it tested from the forensics. We will check all the videos and try to find the truth. His phone is a vital evidence,” said additional SP Saikat Ghosh of Baruipur Police district.The victim’s mother said her son used to video chat with his friends. She knew he had a relationship, which turned sour but she had no clue the relationship was revived again. She alleged that for a last few days, the boy was bit hyper, tensed and depressed. “I had no idea he could take such an extreme step. I tried to speak to him but he refused to talk about his relationship,” the victim’s mother said.The boy’s friends said the duo often quarrelled. They got separated, but on his insistence, the relationship was revived. For last few days neither did he speak to us nor did he come to play football with us. His friends are completely in shock.“At around 1 am, I received a call from the girl. I was bit surprised. She was so scared that I could not understand what she was saying. It took me a few seconds to understand what she wanted to say. I was crestfallen when I heard from her he had hanged himself on camera. I did not waste a minute and rushed to his home with a hope we might be able to save him. But all was over by the time we reached,” said his friend.
