She lives with her son and his family but they are not very keen to take her out to pandals as she can’t walk much due to joint pain and other ailments. “I used to feel lonely and left out during Durga Puja. Ever since I was told that members of Boro Eka Lage (a group of senior citizens) will take me out for visiting pandals, I am counting the days,” said Ms. Halder. Seniors day out Along with 70 elderly persons from nine slums in the area, 50 well-off senior citizens will also visit pandals on Tuesday. They will board two buses around 8 a.m. and visit a prominent Durga Puja in Bagbazar in North Kolkata, and hop to three more pandals, accompanied by three volunteers. The initiative started in 2015.
