Abandoned widow finds shelter after CM's order

She told them that she had been abandoned by her middle-aged unemployed son below the Howrah station clock tower about 10 days ago. On Tuesday, police sources said a case was registered against Sapna’s son and daughter-in-law after the widow lodged a complaint accusing them of neglecting her. On Monday, Sapna had told police that her son had promised to take her back from the station once he got a job.Sapna said about six months ago, her son ran out of money he had inherited from his father. This forced them to leave their Beck Bagan home that Sapna’s husband had rented long before his retirement in 2009.SRP Howrah Niladri Chakraborty said, “I took the woman to the Village Welfare Society home in Pancharul for rehabilitation. We registered a case against her son and daughter-in-law on charges of negligence and torturing a senior citizen. We shall call them for questioning.”Sapna said, “Even 24 hours ago, I could not imagine that I will have to see this day. For the last five months, I have been roaming around hungry. I hope the darkest days of my life are over.”
