Kolkata: Light rain in the Jammu & Kashmir Himalayas could result in a slight chill in Kolkata, weathermen said on Sunday. The city’s minimum temperature is set to drop from Wednesday, albeit by just a degree. Since the northwesterly is yet to acquire sufficient chill, a significant drop in mercury is ruled out, they added.“The minimum temperature will continue to hover around 21°C while the maximum should remain around 31°C for the next 48 hours. Since the north-westerly is yet to get cool, the chill isn’t being carried in from the north-west. But since it has rained in the Kashmir hills, a marginal drop in mercury is likely. It could make it slightly chillier in Kolkata,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director G K Das. Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 21°C on Sunday.Last week, the minimum temperature had dropped three notches below normal after the north-westerly turned chillier. Unseasonal snowfall in Kashmir had contributed to the chill, but it was temporary since the snowfall lasted just a couple of days, said weathermen.
