KOLKATA:A 23-year-old student of a south Kolkata college was allegedly molested and her fiance assaulted by a group of four men near her Patuli home on Tuesday night. When the women of the family tried to intervene, they too were also attacked, she claimed. The Patuli police nabbed one of the accused within hours of the complaint.According to the secondyear student, she was returning to her Patuli residence with her fiance around 10.30pm. He was to return to his house in Baghajatin later. “There were four men arguing right outside my house. I suspected that they were drunk and when my fiance asked them to make way for us, the accused hurled obscenities at me. My fiance protested and two of them — Pradip Ghosh alias Phuchka and Amit Das alias Rinka — beat him up. Both accused are my neighbours. There is an under-construction building opposite my house and the duo used bricks from the site to hit him. They also punched his face and stomach. My fiance has been admitted at Peerless Hospital to treat his injuries,” the woman said.She added that she was attacked as soon as she tried to save him. “I was dragged and thrown on the road and then beaten up. When my mother and grandmother heard our cries and tried to intervene, even they were not spared. My grandmother was dragged by her hair. She had never faced such humiliation before,” she told TOI.Cops said they have arrested Phuchka and a search was on for Rinka. “We have received a complaint from the couple who was assaulted. However, there was no mention of the woman’s mother and grandmother being attacked. We registered an FIR and began rounding up the accused, all of whom are local men. There were some obscenities hurled at the woman and the man was attacked when he protested. A case has been drawn up under IPC sections 341, 323, 324, 354 and 114 pertaining to wrongful restraint, hurt and molestation,” said a senior officer from Patuli police station.The woman said she would like to see more patrolling at night. “It is scary given the fact that the accused did not spare even the elderly women. All of them were inebriated and it did not matter to them that I belonged to the same neighbourhood,” she added.
