Retd banker falls unconscious at wheel, hits 2

KOLKATA: Six persons, including a retired bank official who was driving a car, were injured in an accident on Wednesday morning near Chaliya on NSC Bose Road. The friend, Gautam Sarkar, said Basu fell unconscious while driving the car as they reached Chaliya. Police rushed to the spot and rescued all four persons inside the car, Ali and the coconut seller. However, before he could move from the spot, the car hit him. Basu suddenly went unconscious and lost control of the car while the vehicle was in motion,” he said.

KOLKATA: Six persons, including a retired bank official who was driving a car, were injured in an accident on Wednesday morning near Chaliya on NSC Bose Road. Among the injured were the retired bank official, Loknath Basu’s, wife, their friends, a food delivery person, and a coconut seller.Basu’s wife and friends, who were in the car, said that he suddenly fell unconscious while driving and hit a food delivery person, later identified as Md Wasim Ali (23). Ali was dragged for about 30 metres before the car stopped after crashing into a tree along the road.Basu, who is over 60 years, was admitted to Fortis Hospital, Anandapur. Doctors said he had suffered serious cervical injuries and his condition was critical.He had to undergo several medical tests for the doctors to assess his condition. Ali, who sustained several fractures, was admitted to M R Bangur Hospital.The incident occurred around 10.15am. The Basus, residents of Jubilee Park, were going to Boral for a social gathering along with a friend and his wife. The friend, Gautam Sarkar, said Basu fell unconscious while driving the car as they reached Chaliya. The car was on the left lane and it dangerously veered towards the right, even as other vehicles come towards them from the opposite lane.Ali was sitting on his bike thatw was parked along the road when he saw the car rushing towards him. However, before he could move from the spot, the car hit him. He got stuck under the car and was dragged for about 30 metres. The passengers were shocked at the turn of events and watched in horror as the car went on to hit a coconut seller before crashing into a tree.Basu’s wife and the Sarkars luckily escaped with minor injuries. “We all received injuries and trauma. Basu suddenly went unconscious and lost control of the car while the vehicle was in motion,” he said. Police rushed to the spot and rescued all four persons inside the car, Ali and the coconut seller. The injured were then rushed to the hospital. Basu’s car was seized by the police.However, the matter did not end there. At the hospital, Ali’s relatives alleged that the injured were not getting proper attention and treatment at the hospital and got involved in an altercation with the cops.
