Kolkata: PG student found hanging at home

KOLKATA: A 23-year-old student, who was pursuing her post-graduation from a south Kolkata college, was found hanging at her home in Kudghat on Tuesday morning.Ashmita Biswas had gone to her room after dinner on Monday night. The cops did not find any suicide note. When she did not come out even till late in the morning her parents checked on her and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. Ashmita’s friends said that she was a very good student who scored good marks in all her exams.Ashmita’s parents are both working and her elder sister is doing PhD in mathematics in Bangalore. But police said they have not found any suicide note or any other evidence which indicates that she may have committed suicide for the scolding she got from her mother.

The family stays in Dinesh Palli in Kudghat’s Purba Putiari area.“We have sent the body for post mortem to ascertain the actual cause of death. The parents said they last spoke to her during dinner,” said an officer. Ashmita’s friends said that she was a very good student who scored good marks in all her exams.Ashmita’s parents are both working and her elder sister is doing PhD in mathematics in Bangalore. The girl’s uncle, who did not wish to be named, said Ashmita’s mother had scolded her for being glued to mobile throughout the day. But police said they have not found any suicide note or any other evidence which indicates that she may have committed suicide for the scolding she got from her mother. “Her sister is doing Phd in maths. Even she was a brilliant student. But Ashmita often said she had to face comparisons with her sister because she was studying English. May be, she was a little perturbed about it,” said a friend of Biswas.
