KOLKATA: Five people, including two Madhyamik examinees and two students of class XII, were arrested by CID in connection with the question paper “leak” of the ongoing Madhyamik Pariksha 2019 . All the accused had joined a WhatsApp group for sending questions and answers.“So far it has been found that papers were sent outside through phone for solving and dissemination of answers after start of examination,” reads a CID press note. The CID had taken up the case from Bidhannnagar cyber security cell on February 12 following a complaint lodged by president of West Bengal Secondary Board Kalyanmoy Ganguly with the Biddhannagar police station.Five persons have been apprehended in raids conducted on Sunday from different parts of Bengal. Those arrested are Sahabul Amir of Kaliachak Duisatabighi in Malda, Sahabaz Mondal (18+) of Kaithan Hatpara Of Katwa - both are student of class XII and Sajidur Rahman of Pandua Bazar in Hoogly. “We do not know the name of two others who are Madhyamik examinees who have also been arrested,” said a source in Bikash Bhavan - the education secretariat.“We have been informed from the Madhyamik Parshad that the CID is conducting further raids to track others involved in the racket,” the source added. On Tuesday when examination began with first language paper question papers were allegedly doing rounds on social networking sites within 11:58 am, two minutes before the candidates started to write the paper from 12 noon. During the press meet, Ganguly had said, "Our Deputy Secretary has received a message on WhatsApp which contained an image of the first page of the question paper at 1.43 pm. After this, we had lodged an FIR with the Bidhannagar cyber security cell department.”The following day - Wednesday, during second language examination, the same incident was repeated which made an angry education minister Partha Chatterjee order Ganguly to stop all Kedia interactions until further notice from the government.Chatterjee during the press meet on Wednesday had claimed it to be an intentional ploy to malign the reputation of Bengal’s class X Board examination. “This is destroying the image of the examination system. I’ve asked the SPs and district magistrates in all districts to enforce a total blanket ban of carrying electronic gadgets inside the examination hall,” the minister had said. He added, “Anyone who is not authorised to carry cellphones or electronic devices inside the examination centres if caught in possession of it will be barred from appearing in the exam.”The minister was also submitted a preliminary report by Ganguly on Wednesday.“Only sharing plans to curb taking mobiles inside the examination halls with media won’t solve the problem. The board president needs to take measures and enforce the decision. He has to ensure that no such attempts can be made when the reputation of the examination can be brought at stake. He will not hold any media briefing any more,” the minister said.Proving all attempts and checks to be futile, question papers were was found to be circulating on the social media sites within an hour of starting the examination. This year apart from five officials including the venue in-charge, venue supervisors, additional venue supervisors, centre secretary and officer in-charge no staff or invigilators and teachers can carry cellphones inside the examination halls. “Teaching and non-teaching staff at venue can’t keep the mobile with them. Before confidential papers reach, the mobiles will have to be handed over to headmaster and he will lock them and hand over the keys to venue in-charge,” Ganguly had said.
