10 students in cop net for Madhyamik ‘leaks’

The arrested are Sahabul Amir, 18, of Kaliachak in Malda, Sahabaz Mondal, 18, from Katwa and Sajidur Rahman of Pandua Bazar in Hooghly. The examinees apprehended cannot be named because they are minors.

KOLKATA: Three Class XII students were arrested and seven Madhyamik examinees — all minors — apprehended by CID on Monday in connection with the “leak” of question papers of this year’s Madhyamik.The accused had opened a WhatsApp group for sending questions and answers.The arrests were carried out by a CID special investigation team (SIT), led by a deputy superintendent of police from Kolkata. The raids, which began in Kolkata, Burdwan and Malda, along with a couple of other districts, continued late on Monday.“So far, it has been found that papers were sent outside through phones for solving and dissemination of answers after the start of examination,” said DIG (operations) Nishat Pervez. He added that the masterminds of the racket were being identified. The centre-in-charges, from where the Madhyamik examinees were appearing for their exams, will also be questioned, said sources.CID’s Bidhannagar unit had taken up the case from the Bidhannnagar cyber security cell on February 12 after Kalyanmoy Ganguly, president of the West Bengal Secondary Board, lodged a complaint with the Biddhannagar police. The arrested are Sahabul Amir, 18, of Kaliachak in Malda, Sahabaz Mondal, 18, from Katwa and Sajidur Rahman of Pandua Bazar in Hooghly. The examinees apprehended cannot be named because they are minors. A tutorial home is being examined as well,” said a source.Last Tuesday, the day of the first language examination, papers were allegedly doing the rounds of social media within 11.58am, two minutes before the candidates started to write.The next day, during the second language examination, a similar thing happened. The trend continued on Monday, with the maths paper allegedly shared on social media after the start of exams.
