KOLKATA: Gaurav Dutt , a retired IPS officer, was declared dead at AMRI Hospital in Salt Lake after he was brought in with a slit wrist around 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.The 1986 batch officer was unconscious when he was wheeled into the hospital. He was rushed to the emergency where doctors tried to stop the blood flow and revive him. “He was declared dead at 8.30pm. There was severe blood loss,” said a medical official. A post-mortem will be done on Wednesday.Dutt, a Salt Lake FD Block resident, was the SP of West Midnapore during the Keshpur violence in the late 1990s. At the start of his career, he had served in several districts as deputy SP and SP. He went onto become a DIG.Dutt, who was born in 1958, had done his schooling from Modern School, Delhi, and postgraduation from Hindu College, Delhi University. Later, he went on to complete his LLB and PhD, apart from a film critics course. His father, Gopal Dutt, a 1939 batch IPS officer, was conferred with Padma Shri in 1975.
