Police said three of the four members of the family, including the deceased, suffer from mental illness.The incident came to light on Tuesday after neighbours of the family living on Rakhal Mukherjee Road at Sarsuna , called up the police alerted by a foul smell from the house.The man, identified as Debasish Chatterjee, was last seen on Saturday. Neighbours had also seen a doctor enter the house, police said. “His father, 87-year-old Rabindranath Chatterjee, a retired Electronics Corporation Of India executive, was the only one who could speak coherently. He told us both his son and 43-year-old daughter were unmarried and suffered from mental illness,” said a Behala division officer. Chatterjee told police that his son Debasish had lost his job due to mental illness. Their 78-year-old mother too suffers from mental illness. “The exact reason behind the death can be confirmed only after we complete investigations,” DC (south west division) Nilanjan Biswas said.
