The bulls appeared to have begun the flyover exploration from the Park Circus end and then turned around, failing to spot a green pasture. Once, the bulls appeared to change flank when they climbed the median divider. KOLKATA: Motorists who took the Maa flyover to head to E M Bypass on Monday afternoon faced bovine intervention when they encountered two bulls smack in the middle of the city’s longest elevated corridor. KOLKATA: Motorists who took the Maa flyover to head to E M Bypass on Monday afternoon faced bovine intervention when they encountered two bulls smack in the middle of the city’s longest elevated corridor. Driving at a pacy 55-60km/hr, some slammed on the brakes while others swerved dangerously to avoid hitting the bulls that had walked up a ramp and were seen loitering nonhalantly against the traffic flow as they ambled towards Park Circus.Physician Pradip Chatterjee, who was heading to his Salt Lake residence from his Kidderpore chamber, hit the brakes after he came across a traffic jam in the middle of nowhere. “As I crossed the rail overbridge on Maa flyover, I noticed a series of cars had come to a halt even though the flank ahead appeared empty. As I slowed down, I was in for a shock. Two bulls emerged from between the cars and lazed their way down the road, unaware of the chaos that they had created and the threat they posed to themselves as well as to commuters,” said Chatterjee. It was 3.30pm when Chatterjee had the bizzare encounter around Tiljala. The bulls appeared to have begun the flyover exploration from the Park Circus end and then turned around, failing to spot a green pasture. Had they entered the flyover from the EM Bypass end, it would have been a longer trek that could easily have ended in misadventure. Luckily, the bulls managed to trek against the traffic flow for over a kilometre and exit the ramp at Park Circus without any untoward incident. Not just those heading towards Bypass, even those travelling in the opposite direction towards Park Circus slowed down to watch the spectacle on the other flank. Once, the bulls appeared to change flank when they climbed the median divider. But then, they got off again on the wrong flank, much to everyone’s chagrin.Though hundreds of motorists passed the cattle, the traffic police were unaware of the situation as no motorist had reported the bulls to either traffic cops after they crossed the flyover or called the control room to report them. KMDA officials though said the cops ought to have spotted the bulls as CCTV cameras are installed at regular intervals on the flyover.(With inputs from Biplab Bhattacharjee)
