KOLKATA: CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said she spoke to BJP leader L K Advani after she criticised the saffron party for its “ill treatment” of party veterans and said it was “really sad” to see the way the party was treating its founding members.Banerjee further said she also felt bad at the manner BJP overlooked former Union minister Ananth Kumar’s widow for Bangalore South.“Today I spoke to Adavaniji in the morning. I enquired about his health. He said he felt good that I had called him. It is really sad to see the way BJP is treating its founding members. Murli Manohar Joshiji, Advaniji were the pillars of BJP. Now he has been left out and how. I don’t want to say much more as it is the internal matter of their party,” the CM said.Saying she often met Advani in New Delhi, Banerjee said: “I have met his wife too (in November 2014). I also feel bad for Murli Manohar Joshi . He is a very senior leader.”“Is this the way to pay gurudakshina to your guru (mentor)?” she added in an apparent dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In an apparent reference to Modi’s ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign, the CM said she had immense respect for real chowkidars but not for political chowkidars who were trying to derive “political mileage” out of the slogan.
