KOLKATA: Bidhannagar Police on Wednesday cracked down on a gang of young bike thieves, who had apparently learnt the art of starting a bike without a key by watching Youtube videos According to officers of Baguiati Police , who have so far arrested two 19-year-old youths and detained five minor boys aged between 14 and 17, the gang used to refer to online videos to learn the hack of starting a bike without its key by tampering the ignition wires of self start bikes.After the theft, the group used to park the bikes at houses belonging to their friends and relatives and sell them off as and when a potential buyer is available. Cops have so far, recovered two of the stolen bikes and are in the lookout for many others, the group have confessed to have stolen. “Apparently, the group has stolen around 10 motorbikes from different areas of Baguati, Jyangra and Hatiara areas. We will be interrogating the arrested persons further to know where they have kept the other motorbikes,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar Police Station.Acting on a source information, police first nabbed the group of minors who gave in the names of Aditya Gupta and Ajay Mallick as the leaders and brains behind the gang. Aditya is a first year BCom student of prominent city college while Ajay is a school dropout, police said. “The two youths have said that they began stealing bikes to fund their flashy lifestyle and impress upon friends and peer groups. They were the ones who had taught the minor boys the hacks to start a bike without a key,” said an officer. The two were produced before a Barasat court on Thursday and were remanded to 10 days of police custody.
