Kolkata: One job done, KMC falters in another

KOLKATA: A breach in a major water pipeline near RG Kar under Cossipore railway tracks proved too challenging to repair on Saturday and forced KMC engineers to call off the attempt after struggling for nearly 12 hours. However, the civic water supply department bosses expressed their helplessness in supplying tankers since the production at the city’s largest water treatment plant (Palta waterworks) remained shut for the pipe repair-and-removal works. By evening, however, KMC did send tankers to some hospitals.The KMC control room also received numerous calls from households from the affected areas.Ratan Bose, a financial analyst and a resident of Belgachhia, complained of shortage of water. The engineers will have another crack at it, but not till elections are over on May 19.
